{"id":907,"date":"2022-11-12T19:03:33","date_gmt":"2022-11-12T19:03:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/meatpie\/?p=907"},"modified":"2022-11-12T19:04:49","modified_gmt":"2022-11-12T19:04:49","slug":"catering-for-an-afternoon-tea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/snersbots.co.uk\/index.php\/catering-for-an-afternoon-tea\/","title":{"rendered":"Catering for an Afternoon Tea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I volunteered for catering, and making notes so I do better next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"need-to-know\">Need to Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>How many people to cater for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"need-to-decide\">Need to Decide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Where the location will be &#8211; space and parking, price.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Who will do the catering &#8211; local supplier if poss, not volunteers if poss<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"book-the-food\">Book the food<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For 30 people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 dozen scones<\/li><li>30 butter pats, and 12 jam and 12 cream pots for the scones<\/li><li>3 cakes &#8211; all different please, and please could you slice them for us<\/li><li>1 vegetarian quiche, please could you slice it for us.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"food-paperwork\">Food Paperwork<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ask for a quotation<\/li><li>Confirm the date, time and price<\/li><li>Ask for the way they need payment<\/li><li>Arrange payment<\/li><li>Ask for receipt<\/li><li>The receipt needs to be formal, we cannot accept anything the auditors won&#8217;t have<\/li><li>Confirm date, time and location of collection<\/li><li>Communicate with accountant and secretary \/ chairman<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"drinks\">Drinks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For 30 people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>40 tea bags<\/li><li>Instant coffee for drinks<\/li><li>Milk Full cream 2 litres<\/li><li>Milk Semi Skimmed 4 litres<\/li><li>Milk Skimmed 2 litres<\/li><li>Sugar &#8211; white 1 packet<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"extras\">Extras<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Gluten free cake &#8211; 1<\/li><li>Assorted fruit &#8211; 6 pieces<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"learnings\">Learnings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>25 people attended<\/li><li>3 * cake was far too much, two would have been plenty<\/li><li>1* quiche &#8211; if it is a good quiche like this was, this was eaten &#8211; but 1 was really enough<\/li><li>2 dozen scones &#8211; 1 dozen would have been enough<\/li><li>Didn&#8217;t take fruit, forgot, but I don&#8217;t think we needed<\/li><li>Didn&#8217;t take gluten free cake, but nobody said anything, so not sure it was needed<\/li><li>There was a diabetic, but she said she could eat scones, so that was a good call<\/li><li>Coffee &#8211; you don&#8217;t need a lot &#8211; take as little as possible.<\/li><li>The Brits drink tea &#8211; you do want a box of tea<\/li><li>Brits drink tea from a teapot. 3 * tea bags make a fair sized pot<\/li><li>Milk &#8211; we only used 1 litre of semi-skimmed<\/li><li>Sugar &#8211; don&#8217;t buy, you use practically none. You probably need less than half a cup of sugar &#8211; nowhere near a kg<\/li><li>They liked the cream and jam for scones<\/li><li>Butter the scones, but don&#8217;t put jam and cream on<\/li><li>Put the cakes out for people to help themselves<\/li><li>Serve the tea and coffee, but let them do their own milk and sugar<\/li><li>If someone offers to help with the washing up, say <strong>yes please<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We chose a local caf\u00e9, a small business, and a place with a great reputation for food. It is definitely worth it.
